Abstract

The present study examines the relative influence of students’ perceptions of their ability to learn English and the value they put on learning English on two variables: (1) their achievement in English, and (2) their intention to enrol in additional English classes. The study also examines differences between male and female students on these measures. Data were gathered from 1.207 students. Students’ expectancy to do well in English predicted students’ achievement in English. Students’ values of studying English predicted students’ willingness to take additional courses in English
