Abstract

Ahmadi and Derakhshan (2016) states that textbook evaluation helps the teachers find appropriate course books and let them regulate and modify them to meet the learners' needs. Many researchers and teachers of English are also aware of the significance of coursebook evaluation. The study conducted here is to find out teachers’ and students’ perceptions toward the strengths and weaknesses of the coursebook LIFE-Preintermediate by Hughes John, Stephenson Helen và Dummett Paul published by Cengage Learning after its three-year use in Hue College of Forgeign Languages for first and second year non-English majored students. A coursebook evaluation checklist adopted from Mukundan and Nimechisalem (2011) and delivered to 10 teachers and 120 students, and interviews of two teachers were used to get the data. Based on the data collected, the authors performed thorough analysis and produced recommendations to better the teaching and learning of English with the coursebook.
